Just a friendly warning to Cambridge residents today that I am wearing shorts today, just in case some of you are the type to be offended. Either of men wearing shorts in the winter – some, I believe feel it’s un-Yankee – or of wearing white after labor day. I never bought into the no white after labor day in any case.
I will freely admit that my M.T.F.S. – Minimum Temperature For Shorts – has risen with my age. In college, it was around 40°F. Several years after that, I realized that as much as I love shorts, my M.T.F.S. had risen to about 50°F, since that was comfortable, and I didn’t need to prove anything else. Now as I have a child, I’ve realized I’ve let my M.T.F.S. slip into the mid-50′s, just out of practicality.
This is not at all to detract from the highly respected French Toast Alert, popularized by Universal Hub, which Adam has properly set to today’s level: Low. Rather, this is more of a style warning system, applying more to social situations, rather than being a warning about shopping situations (and potential riots when the alert goes to high and there are stampedes for milk, eggs, and bread).
This is really a chance to recognize those hearty souls who prefer the freedom of shorts. This also goes out to the old Lotus 1-2-3 team’s build lab staff, all of whom wore shorts. Especially one who admitted that he occasionally put on wind pants – but only when shoveling more than a foot of snow. And to a new friend we’ve discovered through daycare – hi Sam!
I’m also wearing a bright green sweater, too. Hee hee hee.

I’m looking for a place to donate – and search for – snippets of LotusScript code. Y’know, the way you program inside of SmartSuite applications. Much cooler, more object oriented, and more closely integrated with the actual user products than VBasic. 8-P
I know about the basic forums, mostly active for Notes/Domino these days, and of course &BigCo; internal knowledge bases and such. But I want just a place for code snippets, with better categorization, and some level of quality checking. Lotus Geek and Ed Brill and NSFTools and Alan Lepofsky others are great, but they seem to be more overall article / technique / full application focused.
Resume searching…

(to be completed)
Well, I didn’t get nearly as much done as I expected, but at least the last half was far better than my first sabbatical! Although I suppose the wedding part of the first one still beats just about anything else out, except possibly seeing Roxanne chatter on about something…
Went back to work – not even that many emails, most people knew I was away and didn’t bother sending me questions (plus I had logged in several times to fix urgent or really simple things while I was out). Then spent the first week back working on an urgent and much more important task – which of course technically took a few days, but organizationally… still isn’t complete. Ha!

TBD blogging about my first week off. Pretty crazy, actually, other than being sick and spending a nice day reading a book (the whole thing!) and taking a nap, I didn’t do much more than if I’d been at work.

Yes, I am back-dating this post commemorating the beginning of my second sabbatical from Lotus! To answer the number one FAQ, I plan to spend my 4 weeks off simply doing all those things around the house I’ve always wanted to do, but never have time for. Well, maybe not all of them… we’re planning several weekends away, and I’ll probably take one crazy day for myself and just drive somewhere I think is interesting.
Actually, the first week looks pretty darn full already, and that’s not even including some of the tasks in my sabbatical planning spreadsheet! Even spare time isn’t spare enough.
