Not that it’s a big loss, but still, that’s where I saw the first LoTR on opening day – took half day off of work to see the first general matinee showing in the area.
“Loews Assembly Square theater’s days are numbered; Ron Newman has confirmed with the manager that the theater will close after regular operations on Monday, January 15.”
Via UniversalHub, which I’m now reading from derspatchel.

Sad. I liked it for its convienence. However no one else I know likes it. So I guess I’m not surprised.
Still, did they factor in the IKEA and personal MBTA stop boost? Maybe their landlord did and put the rents up.
I used to manage that theatre. The lease on the building was up and they had no intention of renewing it. There were plans for a new theatre in Somerville or Everett, but that was before they became AMC so who knows.
Is the theatre going to be reopened any time soon. I really loved that theatre. Is it being renovated or something? Is it going to be open soon?
