I finally discovered the raison d’etre here!

For this blog, silly, not my own. That’s not something I’ll be sharing here.
I was definitely trying to figure out why I wanted to have a blog. A host of little reasons, although I couldn’t figure out how many of them really added up to something bigger than my basic privacy leanings. Hence a dearth of postings, except when an occasional muse comes along or some cool geekery happens.
I want to keep a blog to keep up with my friends. That’s actually backwards: having a blog might enable my friends to keep up with me. But that’s almost as good as keeping up with them, and it’s certainly a start to something more than this winter hibernation that we’ve gone into once again. Admittedly, having a toddler also sucks up a huge amount of time and really changes your priorities and schedule. But I definitely feel a little unconnected with some of the important people out there.
So that’s a good reason to keep a blog. Again, a self-serving one, for no matter how fun it is to write stories – either ones that anyone can read, or those special ones that require translation by those few friends who can actually translate Shane-thought – that’s a wholly different perspective of if any of those friends actually keep reading this. In a blog, you don’t know if your friends start reading and then say the equivalent of “Yes, Shane” and go on to something else. Hopefully I can be amusing enough that some of them might even email me back! (Just a few of you – but you know who you are… always too busy)

I can’t believe we just watched Hitch three times

I mean, it was from Netflix, so it’s not like we paid extra for it or anything. Probably just one of those ‘perfect storm’ conditions where it was a long week and Roxanne had fallen asleep early on a Friday night. “What movie should we watch?” I’m really not sure I should admit this, but it was a choice between an Audrey Hepburn classic – Paris When It Sizzles – and Hitch. I think I was too tired to watch Paris… not that I don’t absolutely love Audrey, but I was too tired and wanted something easier on the brain, if we even made it through the whole movie.
(We do love the classics though. Saw Charade last week, and while it was very much a period piece, the acting was great as well as some settings. But what’s really great about some of the good classics is the dialog! Sure, modern movies can have great “memorable quotes” listings. But dialog back then was a whole different level. Take the time to actually listen to them {the delivery was often pretty good too} to see what I mean.)
It hit the spot just right. Upbeat, fun, plenty of intrigue, and be-u-tee-ful style. We stayed up for the whole thing, and even watched half of all the specials and featurettes and alternate music (very good, although I’m glad they used the more obvious scoring they had in the final movie) until late.
So that’s once. Then Roxanne woke up at 5am sick, so our morning was kind of shot. Ended up spending all morning in bed with the little one, so Amy says “Can I get a DVD player in here?” Hitch was at hand, so we sort of watched it again. I actually paid attention to some of the featurettes this time – there are a lot on this one disc.
So that was twice. I even closed the DVD player up. Amy went out with a friend for coffee and dad led around a very tired and quiet Roxanne for a while. After all the books were stupid (she has this cute way of waving her arms at stuff she doesn’t want) and the cats weren’t interesting and she’d had a little milk in a bottle, we ended up back in the bedroom. Gosh, darn, if she didn’t point her little finger up at the DVD player again and say “more”.
So we watched it a third time. Well, she mostly sort of fell asleep, and I got up and finally had lunch, but the DVD played through to the end once again. Embarassing to admit, I know, but that’s where my muse picked up again after this past absence.
